ABOVE THE DIN
Above the Din is Boston doom rock. Transcendent grunge. A melancholy trio.
They fuse the angst of Seattle grunge with the doom-laden riffs of English hard rock, resulting in “East Coast Gloom,” an amalgam of low-end breakdowns and blues rock derivatives.
The founding members of Above The Din jammed for the first time in 2013. Tim Mercier (guitar, vocals) and Dan Racowsky (drums) then got to woodshedding. When Matt Cote (bass) joined the two-piece several years later, a bottom end rounded out their heavy sound.
All three band members studied at Berklee College of Music, but each come from different musical backgrounds that influence Above The Din’s style. Taking his music as far as Europe, Tim has spent 18 years performing the blues, classical and rock. A vet of the local metal scene, Matt is no stranger to major stages (Boston’s Hard Rock Cafe and Manchester’s Jewel). Since teaching himself instruments as a teen, Dan has explored hardcore, pop punk and every style in between.
