Thunder Road and Evolvement Music Present…
Nemes with special guests Born Without Bones, Dressed For The Occasion, and Josh Knowles.
Nemes (pronounced knee•miss) has made their mark on the Boston and larger New England music scene by playing everywhere from subway stations to highly-revered rock venues. Led by duel-frontmen Dave Anthony and Josh Knowles, the band showcases a true metamorphosis of sound, featuring warm, layered harmonies and one-of-a-kind violin shredding Vanyaland describes as “fiddle-action glory.” These components are delicately layered across captivating original songs to form what Under the Gun Review calls “some of the most engaging music we’ve heard,” garnering shout-outs from national and international acts such as Alt-J and Nirvana.
Released in the fall of 2014, their debut studio full-length album, “I Carry Your Heart,” has lifted the band from the subway stations of Boston to larger stages around the region, performing as support for acts such as X Ambassadors and Guster. The album was co-produced and mixed by Rick Kwan (Jim James, My Morning Jacket) and funded by a combination of busking, gigging, and crowd-funding. The 11-track record is an exploration of four minds working to create a resonant, cathartic listening experience.
Born Without Bones is a rock band from Milford, MA.
Occasionally, amidst the murky waters of rock music, a blazing light will emerge from the depths to show us that despite the muck and the mud, there is still a hopeful place where the river still runs strong.
Dressed for the Occasion was formed in Boston, Massachusetts in the summer of 2010 by Singer Addison Chase, lead guitarist Patrick Hopkins, bassist Alex Ferrero, and Drummer Michael Penney. Addison came to Boston in hopes of completing an acoustic album produced by Hopkins and, in a twist of fate, sparked the wildfire that would come to be known as “Dressed for the Occasion”.
Rooted in classics like Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Hank Williams, and The Doors, each individual member brought their own powerful mix of taste and style to the table and created a sound that can only be described as a thunderstorm of originality.
“New Hampshire’s own Dressed For The Occasion(Best in New Hampshire nominee) performed their single “The Simple Life” with a nice blend of acoustic and electric guitars. Nimble picking styles created a flowing wave of embraceable folksy notes. Vocalist Addison Chase belted out the ode to New Hampshire with a hearty vocal while lead guitarist Pat Hopkins ground out a lean, mean, fiery phrase. Dressed For The Occasion went straight into “Devil’s Rodeo,” a gritty acoustic guitar paving the way for Chase’s huge, booming vocal to soar across the auditorium. Rugged, raw, rootsy, the tune had a driving momentum that pulled people in with the suction they created as they roared past at the speed of sound. Hopkins played a solo line like he meant business. His phrasing was hot enough to peel paint off the walls.” — Bill Copeland
Josh Knowles is a violinist, singer/songwriter, and composer based in Boston, MA. Formerly educated at Berklee College of Music, he brings an eclectic array of influences to his work. He has trained from the age of four as a classical violinist and is continually striving to fuse his traditional foundation with a myriad of contemporary styles.
Knowles is also a musical artist and poet for Cirio Collective and Boston Ballet, with whom he has appeared on stage for historic runs at the Boston Opera House and the Lincoln Center in New York. He first collaborated with the Collective in 2015, and shortly after was asked to arrange the music and perform alongside violist Anna Stromer for Cirio Collective’s piece, “Efil Ym Fo Flah”, which premiered at the Vineyard Arts Project in summer 2016. He currently resides as a Community Luminary at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, where he performs regularly.
In February of 2018, Knowles released “Spin Without A Sound,” his debut album of instrumental solo electric violin pieces. Largely recorded live, each of the original compositions is built on loops and improvisations spawned entirely from sounds created by the violin, manipulated by multiple effect pedals. Riding the line somewhere between contemporary new age and alternative classical, the result is both symphonic and electronic, unique in its combination of melodic foundation and technical prowess.
