The Void Union
Conventional wisdom has guided bands in the computer age towards isolationism; find one’s turf, stake a claim, and interpret peer success as a call to arms. Void Union has propelled itself out of cyberspace’s din with a counterintuitive mission statement: Preserve the Jamaican music of the 1960’s, collaborate with Ska’s originators, and actively recruit guest players from the ensembles that have proven equal to the task of reinventing the genre. Some of those musicians include Derrick Morgan, The Skatalites, Lynval Golding (The Specials), King Django, Angelo Moore (Fishbone), Chris Rhodes (The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Spring Heeled Jack),and David Hillyard (The Slackers, Hepcat), all of whom feature on the Void Union’s recordings. In November of 2010, Vin Gordon (The Skatalites, Bob Marley and the Wailers) joined the group for a watershed European tour.
Born In Hartford,CT. in 1980. Like a true New Englander,Riki lived all over the East Coast throughout his youth from Connecticut to Maine & Boston to Miami. He now resides in Boston,MA where he still performs. A hard worker,a dedicated skinhead and an even tougher man with a reckoning in life! Known to many already in Boston, New York, and Miami as a skilled songwriter and street musician, Riki Rocksteady is quickly broadening his appeal. First noticed nationally with the successful college radio airplay of his song “Crazy Dave” from the Spit Shine Records’ compilation Leisure Riddims (2002), he has continued to gain recognition with “Going Home Dub” off of the Dubshine Compilation (2003) and caught the ear of European radio stations and Internet sites. Boston’s Spit Shine International record label recognized his talent, signed him, and has released his first full-length album at the tail end of 2004. Entitled, “Your Official Introduction” the album of 12 original tracks enlists some guest appearances by seasoned Boston ska/reggae artists of Bim Skala Bim, The Allstonians, and The Harmonics.
The New Limits
As products of the 90’s ska revival scene, The New Limits gathered in a garage attic in Boston with a clear objective; to play the music they love. They are well versed in the music’s rich history, from the rocksteady of the 60’s, to the 2-tone of the 80’s, and the “third wave” of bands they idolized as teenagers.
The NB Rude Boys
The NB Rude Boys are a ska and rock steady band based in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
